It happened near the intersection of Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Evergreen Avenue. Longwood police were called to the parking lot next to Syce Studios around 9 p.m. last night after police said a caller reported hearing what sounded like gunshots.

When they arrived on scene, they found James Laguerre suffering from a gunshot wound.

Witnesses told police that a dark-colored sedan pulled out next to Laguerre’s car when a person got out and shot him.

On Sunday, police continued to piece together what happened at the scene of the crime.

Laguerre’s brother said James Laguerre was at Syce Studios recording last night. Police have not said much about what Laguerre was doing prior to the shooting.

Kandy Ansley has owned nearby Contemporary Hairstyling since 1982. She said she was shocked after hearing the news that a shooting happened in the parking lot.

“I’ve always felt safe over here and all, and I kind of still do because I think this is just an isolated incident,” Ansley said. “So hopefully they’ll get that person and get them off the street, because you don’t go around shooting people.”
