Lymmo expansion will add new stops in downtown Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando city leaders have announced plans to expand the Lymmo bus service in the downtown area.

About 4,500 people use the Lymmo service each day, and leaders are hoping to increase that number.

City officials told Channel 9 that the bus service will remain free, because it is paid for by parking fees, tickets and other downtown sources.

Rider Leonard Rountree relies on the Lymmo bus to get around downtown Orlando.

"It's pretty decent to get around the city, but your actions are limited," Rountree said.

The city's expansion agreement with Lynx will add new service to the north quarter of downtown Orlando. The expanded route will stop at new residential complexes, like SteelHouse on North Orange Avenue, as well as a hotel that's under construction.

"It's good. It should be 24 hours, but I mean, expanding is good," Rountree said.

City leaders also discussed a new route called the Lime Line that will debut in the spring, giving residents convenient access to Lynx central station, SunRail, the Parramore neighborhood and FAMU's College of Law.

The expanded north quarter route will begin on April 19.
