GENEVA, Fla. — A Geneva man accused of trying to destroy marijuana plants said he was trying to pile them up for deputies instead.
Michael Logan, 30, was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence after Seminole County Sheriff’s Office helicopter video showed him pulling up marijuana plants Friday.
“All I was doing, basically when they came—they're going to pick up the plants and put them in a brown bag,” said Logan. “So all I did was pick up the plants and put them in a pile.”
Seminole County deputies said their helicopter was near Wildwood Trail in Geneva Friday, during routine patrol, when they spotted Logan and Jerry Kendall, 62, pull marijuana plants out of the ground and set them on fire.
Logan said he knew the plants were marijuana and that he is the one shown in the helicopter video.
But he denies setting the plants on fire.
Firefighters put out the fire and deputies said of the 40 marijuana plants on the property, 30 were destroyed by fire.
