MELBOURNE, Fla. — Melbourne police are hoping cellphone video can lead them to the person who critically injured a Brevard County man.
Jonathan Touchton was in downtown Melbourne to enjoy a night marked by Halloween festivities.
Instead, he was attacked on the street.
Cellphone video shows 36-year-old Touchton in downtown Melbourne early Sunday morning.
He's in a crowd of potential witnesses near the bar Debauchery just before he's struck and falls to the ground, suffering a serious head injury.
“The hope is that the community will be outraged by the extent and level of senseless violence that took place” and contact the police, said Commander Vince Pryce with the Melbourne Police Department.
Police were already investigating a fatal stabbing near New Haven Avenue.
Reginald Garoute was killed the night before the attack on Touchton.
A post on Touchton’s brother Alonzo's Facebook page read: "This is where my brother was assaulted by a coward... and someone in this town knows who he is... Do the right thing and come forward!"
Alonzo Touchton also said Wednesday that his brother had surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain.
“There were lots of people around,” Touchton said. “A lot of people were witness to the event and we hope that some of them would have the courage to call Crimeline, to get these people off the street.”
