Mom's heart starts beating after 45 minutes without pulse due to C-section complications

BOCA RATON, Fla. — A 40-year-old Boca Raton mother said she's savoring every day of her busy life after less than a month ago doctors believed she had died.

Mother of two, Ruby Graupera-Cassimiro, told The Associated Press on Monday she has a deep appreciation for each new day, no matter how routine.

The woman went without a pulse for 45 minutes following complications from a routine cesarean section after she gave birth to healthy baby girl.

"You can't even explain it into words. It was unbelievable," said Graupera-Cassimiro.

She said she experienced a glimpse of the afterlife.

"I remember seeing a spiritual being who I believe was my dad. I remember the light behind him and many other spiritual beings.  I wasn't walking, I was kind of flowing," she said. "It's peaceful. There's nothing to be afraid of," said Graupera-Cassimiro.

Doctors told her family she had not survived and to say their final farewells before they officially pronounced her dead. Moments later, her heart began beating.

Medical officials called her survival a double miracle because she has no brain damage despite going for so long without a pulse.
