INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis joined transportation officials on Friday to celebrate the opening of the new Interstate 95 interchange at Oslo Road, a project finished a year early.
This interchange is the first new I-95 exit in Indian River County in over 50 years, offering direct interstate access from the Oslo Road corridor.
State officials stated that the project involved widening Oslo Road from two to four lanes, installing sidewalks and bicycle lanes, and building a new bridge over I-95.
The Florida Department of Transportation states that these improvements aim to alleviate congestion, shorten commute durations for numerous drivers, and enhance access to emerging commercial and industrial zones in southern Indian River County.
Officials said the project could also improve emergency response times along the I-95 corridor by up to 56% and provide an additional evacuation route during emergencies.
The interchange includes additional safety features such as new traffic signals, roadway lighting, and wrong-way driver detection technology.
The project also involved environmental enhancements, such as establishing a habitat for gopher tortoises, which officials state will act as a relocation area for the protected species in southeast Florida.
The new interchange is now open to traffic.
