OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Hundreds of Osceola County high school students are starting the school year in a brand-new school.
Nova Lakes High School welcomed students for the first time Monday, marking the end of about a year and a half of construction.
The new school comes as the Osceola County School District has discussed declining enrollment at some schools across the district.
Despite those trends, district officials say Nova Lakes is needed to serve the growing area and provide additional capacity for students.
As students settle into their new classrooms, the school community will have the opportunity to shape what Nova Lakes High School becomes, starting with its very first class.
The district says the new campus is designed to serve the needs of students in the surrounding area as Osceola County continues to grow.
