ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Teachers are leaving the profession because of COVID-19.
It was an issue the Orange County teacher’s union warned officials about even before learning began.
The district says since face-to-face learning began, 139 teachers have resigned or retired. That’s up from the 118 teachers who have retired during a similar period last school year.
Orange County Public Schools deputy superintendent Dr. Maria Vazquez said it’s not significant and “it’s not impacting our ability to teach students,” in part because there are fewer students enrolled than expected.
