ORLANDO, Fla. — With many families in Central Florida spending more time at home, some locals are cleaning up their homes and looking to donating some of the clutter.
With many people facing layoffs and other challenges due to COVID-19, help is needed now more than ever.
Here’s what you need to know before going out to donate to Goodwill, The Salvation Army, or The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando amid the coronavirus pandemic.
•Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is encouraging people to temporally hold donations to most of their locations due to limited hours and staffing.
Local Goodwill’s are only accepting items daily at its Donation Xpress Centers from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Large items and truckload donations will only be accepted at Goodwill’s Taft-Vineland Warehouse at 1729 West Taft Vineland Rod in Orlando.
People are asked to not leave donated items outside the retail store donation doors.
Some of the items Goodwill accepts includes lightly worn and new clothing, shoes and accessories, furniture in good condition, small appliances and working electronics.

Coronavirus live updates: US death toll tops 10,000
• The Salvation Army is continuing its mission to help people impacted by tragedy, even as the world fights against the coronavirus pandemic.
Salvation Army stores serve as drop-off locations for donations of clothing, housewares, small furniture and even used vehicles or make an appointment online.
Their Family Store at 3955 West Colonial Drive in Orlando is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for furniture and other household used donations. The Kissimmee and Casselberry stores are closed until further notice.
Their campus, located on the 416 West Colonial Drive in Orlando is open for people to make donations.
People can donate non-perishable food, baby supplies, hygiene products, cleaning and sanitizing items, and paper products.
The best way to support the mission of The Salvation Army is by giving a monetary donation through their website or by calling 407-423-8581.

• The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is not currently open to the public for adoptions or intakes and is only taking appointments for emergency purposes.
Officials said they have around 195 pets in their care and most of them are currently in foster care.
The organization is hoping to launch “virtual adoptions” by the end of the week to help move animals to their forever homes.
