WFTV Severe Weather Center 9 Heat record broken on April 13 across Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — The rain and heat return this week to Central Florida.

All official weather stations broke heat records today in Central Florida. Orlando and Sanford reached 97 degrees. Melbourne hit 96, Daytona Beach hit 94, and Leesburg registered 92 degrees. It was at times cloudy and hazy due to Saharan Dust taking over the skies, this also aid the heat to settle across Central Florida. The winds will continue to come from the south-southwest overnight. Low temperatures will only drop to the low 70s.

Here´s what we can expect for the rest of the week:

  • Hot and muggy on Tuesday, with temperatures again in the low to mid-90s. The warmer range focused along the coast.
  • There is a chance for an isolated shower on Tuesday afternoon. About 20 percent of Central Florida could receive measurable rain.
  • Showers and storm chances will increase as the week progresses and a series of cold front get closer to Central Florida.
  • We will trade the heat for showers and storms starting Thursday. Expect a good chance for rain and storms Thursday and Friday.
