Orlando police chief: Repeat felony offenders must be held accountable

ORLANDO, Fla. — Following two recent attacks on Orlando police officers, Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon made a call on Tuesday for repeat felony offenders to be held accountable and taken off the streets.

Between the four men arrested related to the attacks, Rolon said they were charged with a total of 74 felonies but were only convicted of nine of these.

“There seems to be a pattern that unfortunately is showing that individuals that commit offenses may not be subject to sentencing or even being convicted,” Rolon said.

He said a systematic change needs to be made to make sure offenders wreaking havoc in the community be held accountable and taken off the streets.

“We do believe in second chances...but when it comes to individuals like this that have a history of committing so many offenses, to include homicide, and yet some of them are still out there among us, that should be a concern for all of us,” Rolon said.
