Pets and their humans unite for Paws for Peace Walk to support survivors of domestic violence

ORLANDO, Fla. — Harbor House of Central Florida, community leaders and more happy dogs than you could shake a stick at came out Saturday to help survivors of domestic violence.

The annual Paws for Peace Walk was held Saturday morning at Blue Jacket Park.

Hundreds of residents and their four-legged friends gathered to raise money and awareness for Harbor House of Central Florida.

The theme for this year’s event was “The Art of Barking (or Meowing!).” Attendees were encouraged to dress their pet in its most creative attire or as their favorite artist.

Officials said other activities included a pet costume contest, bobbing for tennis balls, yoga with your pet, a dog lure, activities for owners and their dogs, and pet-focused vendors.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer also came out to show their support during the event.

Harbor House of Central Florida said it “works to prevent and eliminate domestic abuse in Central Florida by providing critical life-saving services to survivors, implementing and advancing best practices, and educating and engaging the community in a united front.”
