ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A national Kaiser Family Foundation survey of thousands of women found 38% skipped their regularly scheduled diagnostic tests and screenings during the pandemic.
Thankfully, that wasn’t the case for a Wekiva High School track coach and two-time All American sprinter Donette Taylor, who just won her greatest race, thanks to a mammogram.

Getting ready for another season last December, the busy mom could have easily skipped her yearly mammogram. It was two days before Christmas, with the pandemic in full swing.
But she kept her appointment and waited for results.

“I try not to cry but when I think about it, it’s... yeah,” Taylor said.
A biopsy showed the shock of early-stage breast cancer.
Dr. Danielle Henry led coach Taylor’s treatment at Orlando Health’s cancer institute.
Henry said a younger patient like this in top physical shape, without a history of breast cancer, may not fit the common diagnosis, but shows the life saving difference mammograms make
“It’s a good example of how we can detect it early, treat it and cure it,” Henry said.

Henry and Taylor said now matter how late you may be to making your next mammogram appointment, it’s important that you get it scheduled.
“I will sing it if I had a bullhorn, do not miss a single appointment,” Taylor said.
