Orlando man scratches his way to ‘gold,’ wins $5 million in Florida Lottery game

ORLANDO, Fla. — A 30-year-old Orlando man who took a chance on a $20 lottery ticket is now a multi-millionaire.

Herbert Harris Jr. recently claimed his $5 million prize in Tallahassee, Florida Lottery officials said.

Harris Jr.’s riches came after he stopped into the Right Way Food Store in Orlando and bought a scratch-off ticket.

The game he played — Gold Rush Limited — actually offers 32 chances to win a $5 million prize.

According to recent data from Florida Lottery, Harris, Jr. is one of 11 players so far to claim a top prize — meaning 21 tickets worth $5 million are still unclaimed.

Harris Jr. decided to take his winnings in a one-time, lump-sum payment of $3,960,000.

The store that sold him the winning ticket will receive a $2,000 bonus commission, lottery officials said.

If you don’t feel lucky enough to win a top prize, you still might walk away with a smaller one.

Florida Lottery said the odds of purchasing a winning Gold Rush Limited ticket are 1 In 2.65.
