Orlando Shakes ‘shakes up’ Central Florida, announces lineup for its new season

ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida’s largest professional theater company is shaking things up this year with a new season of fan-favorite musicals and award-winning dramas.

Orlando Shakes, celebrating its 34th season, announced the lineup for the 2022-2023 season.

“I am so excited about this upcoming season,” said Orlando Shakes artistic director Jim Helsinger. “From September through April, we will be entertaining Central Florida audiences with some of the most popular and electrifying musicals, comedies and dramas we have ever done.”

The Signature Series lineup will kick off with the Tony Award-winning “Noises Off” and include other shows such as “Kinky Boots” and “A Christmas Carol.”

“Fans of not just the Broadway musical, but also of the hit 2005 film, have been asking us to add Kinky Boots to our lineup for years,” said Helsinger. “I am so excited to say that, yes, Orlando Shakes will have Kinky Boots on its stage!”

Other shows include “Apologies to Lorraine Hansberry (You Too, August Wilson),” “Henry V” and “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.”

This year will also feature the return of its popular children’s series which was canceled last season due to the pandemic.

This season, the children’s series will feature the classic tales “Beauty and the Beast” and “Charlotte’s Web.”

Orlando Shakes will also present several special events, including five concerts in the patron-favorite Courtyard Cabaret Series, PlayFest 2022, and a Season 34 Gala.
