PLANO, Tex. — Pizza Hut has partnered with the nonprofit organization Little Free Library to launch “Little Hut Libraries,” limited-edition neighborhood book exchanges modeled after the restaurant’s red-roof design.
The program is launching in October to mark both National Book Month and National Pizza Month. Each Little Hut Library comes stocked with books and Personal Pan Pizza gift cards while supplies last, allowing participating readers to receive a free pizza through the book exchange.
The initiative builds on Hut’s BOOK IT! reading program, which was launched in 1984. For more than 40 years, the program has encouraged reading achievements by pairing them with Personal Pan Pizza rewards.
Melissa Friebe serves as the chief marketing officer at Hut U.S. Friebe explained that the book exchanges combine the company’s history with literacy outreach. “Hut has always been about more than pizza; it’s about the memories and moments that happen around it,” Friebe said. “Our red roofs and BOOK IT! are two iconic pieces of Hut history, and we’ve long admired Little Free Library’s mission to bring books to communities across the country. Little Hut Libraries bring our shared passion for reading to life in a uniquely Hut way, putting more books into communities, all under our beloved red roof.”
Daniel Gumnit is the CEO and executive director of Little Free Library. Gumnit commended Hut’s ongoing involvement in literacy efforts. “We’re grateful to Hut for bringing its decades-long commitment to young readers to this collaboration,” Gumnit said. “Little Hut Libraries are a fun and nostalgic way to put more books within reach while inviting neighbors to share in the joy of reading. We love seeing the Little Free Library concept reimagined in such a playful and recognizable way, and we’re excited to help these Little Hut Libraries find homes in communities across the country.”
Community members can apply to receive a free Little Hut Library for their neighborhood through the Little Free Library website.
