KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A person of interest is being interviewed by detectives in connection to an  attempted to rape of a woman after she was forced at gunpoint out the back door of Best Laundromat in Kissimmee, police said Wednesday night.

Surveillance video shows the masked man holding a gun and making his way to the victim as she was finishing her laundry early Wednesday morning.

Police said the woman was forced to walk behind a Sedano's grocery store on North John Young Parkway, where the man tried to sexually assault her.

The woman resisted and was able to escape, but the man opened fire, injuring the woman.

"She resisted and he was able to fire his weapon, and it did strike her," said Stacie Miller of the Kissimmee Police Department.

The victim told authorities she last saw the man heading toward Oak Street, police said. She was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The man was described as Hispanic with an average height and build. He was wearing gray or blue pants, a black short-sleeved T-Shirt, a black mask and a camouflage baseball hat with an unknown logo on the front.

"If you look at the video, you can see he has a very determined walk, so we're hoping somebody will recognize something about him," said Miller.

Police did not name the person of interest they were speaking with.
