Road project on John Young Parkway impacting drivers

ORLANDO, Fla. — For the first time, a $42-million road project to ease congestion on Interstate-4 is impacting drivers.

Starting Monday night, traffic patterns will change as crews repave John Young Parkway in both directions.  It’s part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s JYP extension project.

On Monday the center turning lanes for Bess Lane and Heatherington will be permanently closed.  The turning lane to Ace Road will also be closed.

Eventually, crews will widen JYP to six lanes between Shader Road and Orange Blossom Trail.

A new flyover will cross OBT and the railroad tracks and a new section of road will be laid down.

The JYP will eventually connect with Forrest City Road.

The extension is meant to alleviate traffic on I-4, an alternative to get from Maitland to Osceola County.
