St. Cloud restaurant shut down after state inspectors find roach infestation

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — A popular Osceola County restaurant has been shut down after state inspectors said they found roaches, mold and toxic chemicals placed where they shouldn’t have been.

State records show Catfish Place on 13th Street in St. Cloud was cited for more than two dozen sanitation and safety violations.

Some of the problems included live cockroaches in a kitchen wall, on a breading shelf and on the restaurant’s deep fryer.

Reports said there was also a mold-like substance in the cooler, cracked floor tiles, flying insects and toxic chemicals stores near utensils.

Channel 9 reporter Mario Boone tracked down the restaurant’s owner, Judith Johnson, and confronted her about the problems.

“I really didn’t think it was that bad, to be honest,” she said.

Eight of the violations are labeled as “high priority.”

Johnson said she has hired a pest control company to handle the issue.
