FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library will host its third annual Stonewall Uprising reenactment later this month in Fort Lauderdale as part of Pride Month events.
The event is scheduled for June 28 at the museum on East Sunrise Boulevard.
Organizers said the reenactment is designed to honor the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York City, which became a turning point in the LGBTQ rights movement.
“This yearly reenactment is not a game or entertainment — it reminds us of what our community had to do if we were to live freely in our own country,” museum President and CEO Robert Kesten said in a statement.
The museum first launched the reenactment in 2024. Last year’s event featured actress and activist Kristen Lovell portraying LGBTQ activist Marsha P. Johnson.
According to organizers, the event will include historical-themed music, live performances and audience participation.
The reenactment is scheduled for 4 p.m. June 28 at the Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library, located at 1300 E. Sunrise Blvd. Organizers are asking people interested in participating to RSVP with the museum.
