ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Four bottles of an unknown substance prompted the evacuations of some students at an apartment complex near the University of Central Florida Tuesday morning, according police.
Police said they were called about 9:15 a.m. after a maintenance worker at the Knights Circle Apartments on Jouster Court found a plastic drink bottle filled with a liquid that seemed to be pressurized.
Three more similar bottles were found nearby, police said.
Police said one building was evacuated while they waited for the Orange County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad to arrive.
The bomb squad determined that the bottle contained a mixture of acid and foil, which can pressurize when combined, police said. They said the bottle can explode.
Police believe the bottles were left as a prank, but they're asking for help in identifying those responsible for leaving them.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
The scene was cleared, and the building reopened about noon, police said.
University officials sent an alert to students asking them to stay away from Building 12 at the apartment complex while investigators worked at the scene.
