Large crowds expected at beaches in Volusia County during holiday weekend

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County lifeguards are expecting a lot of people out on the beach this weekend, not only because of the good weather but because of some of the beach Easter services going on.

Labor Day, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July are usually thought of as very busy days on the beach, but Volusia County Beach Safety said Easter isn’t too far behind.

Thousands are expected to head to Volusia County’s coast and enjoy an Easter weekend out on the beach.

“We are expecting large crowds to come in for the holiday weekend,” said Volusia County Beach Safety Captain Laura Warner. “I know it’s going to be pretty nice weather we are going to be staffing up our lifeguard towers. We are looking at about 15 towers staffed each day.”

Lifeguards are flying the red flags because of dangerous rip-current conditions in the waters, but that will not keep some from coming out and having a good time.

Officials are asking visitors to always swim in front of a manned lifeguard tower.
