ORLANDO, Fla. — After spending seven months supporting the war in Afghanistan, 13 Marine reservists arrived home to fanfare and celebration.
The Marines are part of the Direct Support Motor Transport Company A11, based out of Camp Pendleton, N.C.
While overseas, the Marines said they transported people and supplies with the frequent hazards of improvised explosive devices.
Upon arrival in Orlando, Lance Cpl. Kyle Burks saw his 3-month-old daughter in person for the very first time.
"The tears in my eyes are just from this alone," Burks said. "You got to keep your mind focused on the mission itself. At the same time, you're so eager to see the little one at home."
Burks was able to see his daughter just after she was born thanks to Skype.
Around 7pm Sunday, the Marines were greeted by more than 100 friends and family members at the Reserve Center near Orlando International Airport.
Lance Cpl. Logan Hatch said his main concern while in Afghanistan was his loved ones.
Three remaining Marines, including their platoon leader, are expected to come home on Thursday.
