Impeachment trial day 2: House draws timeline of false statements made by Trump leading to Capitol riot

The impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump continued into its second day on Wednesday.

House managers drew a timeline of false statements and actions taken by Trump that they said led to the siege at the Capitol.

The House is pointing to what it calls Trump’s “big lie” and is releasing never-before-seen video of the riot.

What officials are trying to establish is that Trump spent weeks before and after the election making unfounded claims of election fraud, claims that the House said some of his supporters took to heart and motivated them to march on the Capitol and storm the building to overturn the election.

The Trump defense team will get its chance to make its case later this week before the Senate votes. Florida’s two senators have already indicated they will vote to acquit at that time.
