Some Hidden Mickey images don’t last long. For example, Disney store display window designs may change from time to time. Fortunately, Cast Members and Area Managers maintain some great Hidden Mickeys over time. Other Mickey images are more permanent and may even survive refurbishment of an area or attraction. In this article, I’ll highlight examples of both of these types of images at the Magic Kingdom.
»GALLERY: Search for Hidden Mickeys!
Ropes coiled into classic (three-circle) Hidden Mickeys can often be spotted at the ferry loading docks at the Magic Kingdom and at the Transportation and Ticket Center. Look next to a large post on either side as you walk onto or leave the boat at either loading dock. Cast Members usually maintain these rope images.
Walk to the rear of Frontierland and admire a panoramic view of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
On the left side as you exit the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride (along the exit closest to the Standby line entrance), a cutout in the reddish rock resembles a side profile of Tinker Bell. She's behind the fence and between two metal carts. Thankfully, Tinker Bell survived a recent refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!
Still in Frontierland, as you pass the photo viewing area on your way out from the Splash Mountain ride, look over to the entrance queue to spot a classic Mickey formed by acorns on a birdhouse with a rope ladder. The Hidden Mickey is above a door and below blue roof slats, and it's tilted slightly to the left.
At the Laughin' Place children's play area farther along the exit from Splash Mountain, a sideways classic Mickey is formed by the ends of three logs stuck to the wall to the right of the "Laughin' Place" sign.
Over in Adventureland, along a side pathway outside the entrance to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, the wheel of a cart forms a classic Mickey with two barrels above it. To spot it, walk to the side of the cart away from the main Adventureland path.
In Fantasyland, a poster of Daisy Duck ("Madame Daisy Fortuna") is outside to the left of the entrance to Pete's Silly Sideshow. A faint classic Mickey is traced on the upper part of her light green blouse, just to the right of her right index finger. This Hidden Mickey is tilted to the right.
As you leave the Magic Kingdom, don’t forget to admire Hidden Mickeys along Main Street, U.S.A. Just to the right of the Emporium shop and near the Athletic Club, a sign on a door has two classic Mickeys, at the top and bottom along the border.
In the outside Aladdin display window of the Emporium store, you’ll find a small classic Mickey window in a building wall. The display in this window changes during holiday seasons, but the Aladdin scene with its Hidden Mickey always returns during other times of the year! Notice other building windows that have three circles of equal size - these are “trefoil" images and not Hidden Mickeys. A proper classic (three-circle) Hidden Mickey has a “head” larger than the “ears,” which should not touch each other.
Some Mickey images are seasonal, like this classic Mickey carved in a Halloween pumpkin as you exit Main Street at the Train Station.
Enjoy the search!
