HOUSTON — A fight inside a Houston nightclub early Sunday morning left one person fatally shot and five others wounded, investigators said.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called around 2 a.m. about a shooting at an after-hours nightclub, KPRC reported.
Deputies arrived to find multiple people injured from gunshot wounds. Deputies found two people inside a car a short distance from the club.
Derrick Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Four people were taken to a hospital for treatment and are expected to survive. Another suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken by helicopter to a hospital. Their condition was not released, but officials said the injury was not life-threatening. The other victim identities have not been released.
Sgt. Jason Brown said there were several hundred people at the club when some sort of “fight disturbance” led to the shooting, KPRC reported. During an argument, several people pulled out guns and started firing. It is unclear what led to the initial argument.
Investigators said it is unclear if the victims were participants or bystanders. No arrests have been made.
