A pig spotted “multiple times” on the median of Interstate 59 in Springville evaded police and animal control officials on Friday, AL.com reported.

In a Facebook post, the Springville Police Department said it was aware of the fugitive porcine and urged the public not to approach it.

“We ask that you not attempt to rescue it due to the potential safety hazard this would create on the interstate,” the department wrote.

Police said it has contacted the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and state troopers to come up with a rescue effort “that does not involve shutting down both lanes of traffic, according to AL.com.

It was unclear if the pig was domesticated or wild, and if it was a pet, how it escaped its enclosure.

Among the replies to the police department’s Facebook post was a woman who said that the “Pensacola Police Department may have some pointers.”

The Pensacola Police Department responded to the post, writing, “been there. Done that.”

In late 2021, Pensacola police encountered a similar issue with a wayward pig, noting that it had “zero intention of returning home.”

“Employing a strategy that we saw drawn in the dirt (we drew it), she was finally wrangled and turned over to authorities,” the department wrote in a Facebook post dated Nov. 2, 2021. “We’re just gonna let these pics speak for themselves. Cue the Benny Hill music.”
