More than two million sledgehammers are being recalled because the heads of the hammers can fly off while they’re being used.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of certain sledgehammers produced for DeWALT, Stanley and Craftsman.
The sledgehammers were sold at Home Depot, ACE Hardware and other hardware retailers, as well as online at retailers such as Amazon. They were on the market from November 2013 through November 2022 and sold for between $18 and $26, the CPSC said.
The tools weigh between 2 and 12 pounds and are between 14 and 36 inches long.
The DeWALT and Stanley sledgehammers are yellow and black while the Craftsman ones are red and black. Each has its name brand on the handle.
The DeWALT and Stanley ones have the model numbers on the hammerhead, while the Stanleys have it on a sticker affixed to the handle.
There have been 192 reports of the heads of the sledgehammers coming off. Two incidents involved injuries to someone’s head and face.
