Orlando launches learning pods at 6 neighborhood centers

ORLANDO, Fla. — Monday marks the first day of virtual school for Orange County students.

But if there’s one lesson the coronavirus pandemic has taught us, it’s that you can find new ways and places to learn.

The city of Orlando is launching learning pods at six neighborhood centers.

It’s a good option for families who don’t want to head back to the classroom for face-to-face learning. Students can learn in a smaller setting and parents can still head back to work.

There will be two pods at each location, with nine students per pod.

Each group will be in a separate room and will not interact with the other groups.

All drop-off and pick-up will take place outside.

The goal is to provide an out of home space for students to complete their classwork.

City staff will be onsite to help the students. All staff members received training on the guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Florida Department of Children and Families.

All screenings, including temperature checks, will happen outside the learning pod.

Parents are set to drop off children at 7:30 a.m. Monday.

• Engelwood Neighborhood Center, 6123 La Costa Drive.
• Northwest Neighborhood Center, 3955 Wd Judge Drive.
• John H. Jackson Neighborhood Center, 1002 West Carter St.
• Downtown Recreation Complex, 363 North Parramore Ave,
• Dr. James R. Smith Neighborhood Center, 1723 Bruton Blvd.
• Rosemont Neighborhood Center, 4872 Rose Bay Drive.
