1 year later: Neighbors reflect on death of Miya Marcano at hand of apartment maintenance worker

ORLANDO, Fla. — People are remembering 19-year-old Valencia College student Miya Marcano one year after her murder.

Orange County deputies said she was killed by a maintenance worker at the Arden Villas apartment complex.

Investigators say Marcano knew her killer, Armando Caballero, who was a maintenance worker at her apartment and had had access to her room.

Investigators said Caballero took less than 45 minutes for him to ambush Marcano, kill her and hide her body in the trunk of a car.

Leonardo Sa said he met Marcano a few times when she worked at the front desk of the complex. After she was killed, Sa said the whole complex was on edge.

“It was not easy to transition the first two months because some people, they would not pay rent until they changed the system.”

Sa said he’s noticed more security around the complex since Marcano’s death.
