ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando police officer’s body is being prepared to be laid to rest.
On Wednesday morning, law enforcement led a procession from Lake County to Orange County for officer Kevin Valencia.
Valencia died Monday, nearly three years after he was shot while responding to a hostage situation involving four children.
Outside Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill on Wednesday, uniformed Orlando police stood at attention then put their hands over their hearts as their colleague was carefully carried into the funeral home.
Police Chief Orlando Rolon embraced officer Valencia’s wife Meghan and walked inside where plans were being finalized for Valencia’s funeral next week.
Valencia is survived by his wife and two sons.
A public funeral is scheduled for next Wednesday at First Baptist Orlando.
