Ocala city leaders cancel 4th of July drone show after Orlando accident

OCALA, Fla. — The City of Ocala will not be hosting a drone show this 4th of July.

The city canceled its contract with Sky Elements, the drone company behind last year’s holiday show at Lake Eola.

Several drones flew out of sync during the show in Orlando, and one of them struck a child in attendance.

Ocala city leaders said the move to stop the show was in the interest of public safety.

Since the incident, the FAA has suspended Sky Element’s license.

The NTSB says the drones in last December’s show didn’t lift off simultaneously.

They say that caused them to collide with one another and lose control.
