FLORIDA — A 26-year-old Ohio man has been charged with making threats against a U.S. congressman and the congressman’s family, according to federal authorities.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced that Alex Justin Miller, of Columbus, Ohio, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with interstate transmission of a threat to injure.
According to the criminal complaint, Miller sent an email on Aug. 18, 2026, containing a threat to a U.S. congressman. Federal investigators allege the email threatened to murder the congressman and the congressman’s family.
If convicted, Miller faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the U.S. Capitol Police and the U.S. Secret Service.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Courtney D. Richardson-Jones will prosecute the case.
Federal prosecutors noted that a criminal complaint is a formal charge and that Miller is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
