Orange County Public Schools addresses concerns over possible gang violence

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — WFTV Tonight is digging into a possible connection between Orange County students and gang violence.

The Orange County Public Schools’ Parent Academy Team spoke with parents at Carver Middle School Monday about youth violence and the warning signs they should be looking out for.

Officials said there is a concern over an increase in certain kinds of conflict.

During the meeting, officials said if you see something, say something.

Channel 9 went to the school district directly to ask if there is a gang problem.

“When you have adolescents, you have conflict, and that conflict comes from a variety of places,” said Mariel Milano, director of family engagement and digital outreach for Orange County Public Schools.

She said parents are the ones who first asked this to be addressed, and there’s been a series of community roundtable meetings to address some of the biggest needs of the community as a result.

Some parents at the end of the seminar said they couldn’t give specific examples of what’s happening, and no pictures or information about particular members in the community they’re concerned about.
