ACLU wants police agencies to investigate footage showing protesters pepper-sprayed, arrested

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The ACLU has compiled footage showing the moments protesters were pepper-sprayed, hit and arrested by officers during George Floyd demonstrations.

Now, they’re demanding agencies investigate the footage.

"These are the videos that the American public is seeing,” said Kara Gross with ACLU Florida. “This is what is happening.”

In a letter, the ACLU is explicitly requesting that agencies conduct reviews, and temporarily suspend and open an investigation into all officers involved in incidents referenced in the video.

In some cases, the public can do that to an extent.

The Orlando Police Department has started publishing some bodycam video from incidents where force, including pepper spray, is used against protesters.

OPD said they are looking at the ACLU videos and related incidents, as is the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

At least five protests are taking place this weekend following the curfew being lifted.
