Troopers investigate fatal crash involving disabled vehicle in roadway in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An investigation is underway following a fatal crash involving a disabled vehicle in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened near the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Mid Florida Drive around 9:20 p.m. on Friday.

Troopers said a Toyota Corolla was disabled in the outside lane of southbound Orange Avenue with its hood up. A Ford F-150 stopped and was parked in front of the Corolla assisting the driver of the Corolla.

Both male drivers were standing by the vehicles when a Jeep Liberty traveling southbound on Orange Avenue crashed into the back of the Corolla. The impact of the initial crash sent the Corolla into the pickup truck and the two drivers.

The 48-year-old driver of the Corolla was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.

The 27-year-old driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital with what were considered non-life-threatening injuries.

The 46-year-old driver of the Jeep was transported to the hospital with what were considered serious injuries.

Troopers are investigating whether the Corolla had its hazard lights activated and if it could have been seen disabled in the roadway.
