Woman killed in deputy-involved shooting in Avalon Park, sheriff’s office says

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A woman was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Avalon Park after she lifted a gun toward at them, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies around 4:40 p.m. responded to a battery call on Fountain Coin Loop. When they arrived a man told them a woman hit him after they got into an argument about his 16-year-old daughter.

Those deputies then went to the woman’s home to talk to her. When they arrived, a 42-year-old woman came out holding a gun, according to deputies. When she raised the gun toward them, they fired.

Deputies immediately rendered aid but the woman later died at the hospital.

“It was very shocking; I heard the two bang-bangs and then, the next thing I know, she’s gone,” neighbor Mary Redmon said.

The woman’s name has not been released, but deputies have called the woman the battery suspect.

The two deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement looks into the shooting,
