Osceola health officials offer COVID-19 vaccine events ahead of upcoming school year

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Some Central Florida health departments said they are ramping up COVID-19 vaccine efforts before school is back in session.

The Florida Department of Health was at a back-to-school event in Osceola County on Saturday to offer the Pfizer shot.

A spokesperson said around 10 people were vaccinated at the event.

While that number may sound low, officials said it is progress when you look at the data that shows there were more COVID-19 cases in the county this week than in the previous week.

Jeremy Lanier with FDOH said there is a week-by-week increase in Osceola County as the number of positive COVID-19 cases continues to climb.

The Department of Health in Osceola County stated places like schools, churches and more can put in a request for health officials to come out and do vaccination events.
