SpaceX Crew-3 launch: When is it and how to watch

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Four astronauts are set to blast off from the Space Coast this weekend.

Following two delays, SpaceX’s Crew-3 is set to take off at 11:36 p.m. Saturday.

SpaceX’s Crew-3 launch was originally scheduled for Halloween, but a large storm system elevated winds and waves along the Crew Dragon’s flight path. A second planned launch early Wednesday morning was then scrubbed due to a “minor medical issue” with one of the crew members.

The mission is now scheduled to lift off at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday.

NASA astronauts Raja Chari, Tom Marshburn, Kayla Barron and ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Matthias Maurer will launch on the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center.

The 45th Weather Squadron forecast predicts an 80% chance of favorable weather conditions at the launch site.

The launch would have Crew-3 arriving at the space station at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, for a short handover with the astronauts that flew to the station as part of the agency’s SpaceX Crew-2 mission.

Crew-2 NASA astronauts Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Akihiko Hoshide, and ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet are currently targeting a return in early November. Crew-3 astronauts are set to return in late April 2022.
