MIAMI — Investigators are working to determine what caused an 85-foot pile driver to collapse at a Miami construction site, crushing three cars and trapping two workers.
Rescue crews rushed to the scene and were able to free both workers.
Despite being trapped when the massive piece of construction equipment came crashing down, the workers were able to walk away and were not injured.
One driver narrowly avoided being hit by the collapsing equipment.
One woman was in her car when she threw it into reverse just moments before the pile driver came crashing down.
The collapse crushed three vehicles and left a large section of the construction site covered by the fallen equipment.
The developer involved in the project said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement as authorities work to determine what went wrong.
