VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A precautionary boil water notice is in effect for Volusia County Water Utility customers in the Lake Marie Estates community in DeBary following a water main break.
An unaffiliated private contractor struck and damaged a main line serving the community. The contractor is not affiliated with Volusia County or the City of DeBary.
Volusia County utility crews responded to the break and are working to repair the damaged pipe. Per regulatory requirements, county staff will conduct bacteriological testing to confirm the water supply is safe to drink before ending the advisory.
As a precaution, affected customers are advised to boil all water intended for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. A rolling boil for one minute is sufficient to make the water safe for consumption.
Volusia County officials also instruct residents to discard any ice produced by automatic ice makers during the notice. Affected customers may use bottled water as an alternative.
Volusia County will provide updates as additional information becomes available and will notify customers when the precautionary boil water notice has been lifted.
