Police identify man found dead in Melbourne front yard

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Police have released more details about a recent homicide in Melbourne.

Detectives identified the man they found dead Sunday night as Bobby Lewis, 50, of Melbourne.

Lewis died from a gunshot wound, according to investigators.

Police responded to a call about gunshots near the intersection of Lipscomb Street and W.H. Jackson Street.

When officers arrived, they said they found the Lewis dead in a front yard on Canal Street.

Neighbor Howard Harden said he didn’t hear shots Sunday night, but did hear the ambulance and fire trucks arrive.

“I think it’s a tragedy that things happen in our neighborhood where we can’t talk and resolve our issues without violence, without guns coming into play,” he said.

Within five minutes of finding the body, Melbourne police officers said they responded to a suspicious vehicle call inside the Manatee Cove Apartments complex in the 700 block of Madelyn Way.

Police said the two incidents are not related.

Melbourne police said they are still seeking more information about Sunday night’s shooting.
