NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A New Smyrna Beach High School employee has been arrested following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate online communications, according to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department.
Police said 51-year-old Walter Allen Reeves was arrested and charged with soliciting a child or person believed to be a child for unlawful sexual conduct using computer services or devices and unlawful use of a two-way communications device.
The investigation began Aug. 7 after New Smyrna Beach High School administrators contacted police about allegations involving an employee and an individual who presented themselves online as a minor.
According to investigators, the person Reeves was communicating with was actually an adult who later reported the communications to school officials and law enforcement.
In an earlier update, police said the employee had been removed from contact with students before the start of the school year and had not been on the New Smyrna Beach High School campus while students were present.
The New Smyrna Beach Police Department said detectives conducted a thorough investigation before making the arrest.
