ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Avalon Park community came together on Sunday to raise money for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, in honor of 16-year-old Mikey Stroz.
Stroz was killed last month when an alleged drunk driver going the wrong way hit the car he was in.
At least 13 restaurants worked together on Sunday to donating a portion of their proceeds to MADD.
Avalon Eatery, one of the restaurants involved, said every table was full during the fundraiser until they closed at 3 p.m.
People who knew Mikey came out and wrote tributes on a wall inside the restaurant.
A lacrosse jersey was also hung up that belonged to Stroz.
People who knew Mikey said he was a star player and was getting ready to talk to colleges about playing for them.
Officials with MADD said they plan to take whatever funds are raised and put it toward programs that will educate kids in schools, like Mikey’s Timber Creek High School, about the dangers of drunk driving.
