Orange County teachers, school employees 65 and older receive COVID-19 vaccines

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Teachers and school employees in Orange County who are 65 or older were able to get the COVID-19 vaccine Sunday at the Orange County Convention Center.

The OCCC vaccine site is typically closed on Sundays.

Around 400 people came through for the day, and the site also had some no-shows as well.

School leaders said 18,000 students recently returned to the classroom for the spring semester.

OCPS has more than 25,000 employees, and nearly 1,000 of them are senior citizens.

The district said all employees over age 65 got messages offering them a spot in line to get a shot.

The president of the teacher’s union said this is a big win for Orange County Public Schools.

Now 4.5% of the population in Orange County has been vaccinated, around 60,000 people.
