OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — The next movie, television show or commercial you watch could have a Central Florida backdrop under a new effort to attract productions to Osceola County.

Experience Kissimmee announced Film Kissimmee, an official film commission designed to market the area to production companies.

The initiative will promote more than 100 potential filming locations through an online database available to production groups. Experience Kissimmee says it hopes the program will grow over time, pointing to the success of its sports commission, which launched more than a decade ago and is now responsible for booking more than 100 events each year.

Officials say attracting film and television productions could create a new economic driver for Osceola County while generating opportunities for local businesses and residents.

“When a film or when a TV commercial comes into a location, there’s huge amounts of spending inside the destination,” Experience Kissimmee CEO DT Minich said. “Hotel rooms, rental vans. Like I said, production companies, food and beverage, hair and makeup, lighting, the whole bit.”

Experience Kissimmee says it has hired a location manager who is scouting sites across the area. More than 100 locations have been added to the database so far.
