Seminole County appointments for seniors to get COVID-19 vaccine fill up in hours

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Seminole County leaders said all appointments for people over the age of 65 to get the vaccine was booked up in hours.

The county received 8,100 doses of the Moderna vaccine this week. The majority were supposed to go to health care workers, but the state told the county to switch gears and prepare to inoculate seniors beginning Monday.

About 7,500 doses of the Moderna vaccine are reserved for seniors 65 years old and up. A week’s worth of appointments were snatched up in six hours.

“That is the age bracket that has had the most complications. That is the age bracket that we have seen most of the fatalities. So we’re happy to save lives no matter what,” said Seminole County Emergency Manager Alan Harris.
