WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — A worker was rescued Thursday afternoon after falling into a hopper at an industrial facility in Winter Garden, according to fire officials.
The incident occurred at Lotts Concrete Products on Hennis Road near Plant Street at around 2:11 p.m.
Officials said the worker was performing maintenance when he slipped from a ladder and fell about 10 feet into a hopper. The hopper was not operating at the time of the incident.
Officials said the worker suffered a leg injury and was trapped inside the hopper. It is unclear how long he remained there before 911 was called, but it is estimated to have been several minutes.
Because of the location and complexity of the rescue, Winter Garden Fire Rescue requested assistance from Orange County Fire Rescue’s specialized technical rescue team. Crews conducted a high-angle rescue operation to safely remove the worker from the confined space.
The worker was conscious and able to speak with rescuers throughout the operation, but was in significant pain.
