Rep. Michael Waltz expected to take up his new role as President Trump’s national security advisor

Rubio, Waltz Congressmen Mike Waltz could be named National Security Advisor, and Sen. Marco Rubio could be Secretary of State, according to reports.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Rep. Michael Waltz, a Florida representative, resigned from Congress today to take up his new role as President Trump’s national security advisor.

According to the house clerk, his resignation letter was viewed this morning and Waltz officially resigned.

In November of 2024, President Donald Trump asked U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz to be his national security adviser.

Michael Waltz is a fervent Trump adherent and has reportedly backed efforts to overturn the previous 2020 election.

Waltz, a three-term GOP congressman from east-central Florida, received a nod despite simmering concerns on Capitol Hill about Trump tapping House members.

The title transition will propel Waltz to the forefront of national security crises.

Richard Goldberg, who served at the National Security Council during Trump’s first term, has been quoted as calling Waltz an impressive pick whose background as an elite U.S. service member and experience on Capitol Hill will greatly value Trump.
