DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 13-year-old girl was arrested after another teen was stabbed during a fight in Daytona Beach on Sunday, according to police.
Daytona Beach police said officers responded to the 500 block of South Caroline Street around 5 p.m. following reports of a physical altercation involving a stabbing.
Investigators said everyone involved was a juvenile and had been engaged in what police described as “mutual combat.”
During the altercation, police said one juvenile pulled out a knife and began stabbing another juvenile before running from the area.
According to an arrest affidavit, officers were dispatched to the Caroline Village Apartments at 533 S. Caroline St. The affidavit says people involved in the altercation fled in different directions after the stabbing.
Police said officers quickly located and arrested the suspected attacker.
The affidavit identifies the suspect as a 13-year-old girl and lists a felony charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
According to the affidavit, officers later found the girl running near the 500 block of Jean Street. She was taken into custody and eventually transferred to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office after being taken to the Family Resource Center.
The stabbing victim sought medical treatment and was in stable condition Monday, police said.
Channel 9 was at the scene Sunday evening as officers investigated.
Daytona Beach police said the case remains an active and sensitive investigation because it involves juveniles. The department said it will not conduct interviews or hold a news conference about the case.
Police also said body-worn camera video will not be released at this time in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
